The NJ Health Department requires some retail food establishments, such as full service restaurants, diners, commissaries, catering operations, hospitals, nursing homes, and preschools, to have certified food protection managers at their establishments. The ServSafe® Certificate will satisfy the Health Department's requirement.

1. The first step: Before registering for any of my class dates, participants will need to obtain a ServSafe® Exam Answer Sheet by purchasing one of the following products:
a. ServSafe® Exam Answer Sheet – product code SSEAS. I would only recommend purchasing this single answer sheet if you already have or borrowed a ServSafe® Fifth Edition Essentials textbook to study prior to attending class. (As of July 2009, this single Exam Answer Sheet costs approximately $59.00, including shipping, handling and sales tax.)
b. ServSafe® Essentials Fifth Edition, with the Exam Answer Sheet attached inside the textbook – product code ESX5. (As of July 2009, this single Essentials textbook costs approximately $94.00, including shipping, handling and sales tax.). Studying the material in this book is critical before attending class and taking the examination.
2. The product(s) you choose from the list above can be purchased by contacting the National Restaurant Association Solutions, Toll Free: (800) 765-2122. Press 0 to reach the Operator. Ask the Operator to connect you to the Customer Service Department. Be sure to provide the correct product code(s).
4. After you obtain the appropriate materials from the National Restaurant Association Solutions or from the ServSafe® web site as described above, the next step is for participants to register with me and submit payment for an advertised class as soon as possible in order to reserve your class seat. Participants are not considered registered until payment is received by my office. The cost per each participant is $100.00 and is due immediately after you receive a return e-mail confirmation of your on-line registration (or after verbal confirmation when registering by telephone). The check or money order would be made payable to: ML Food Safety Consulting LLC. Please mail payment to: Michael Leichliter, ML Food Safety Consulting LLC, 123-A Alder Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234-9302. The fee covers the cost of the training class, the exam, and the ServSafe® Certificate, which participants will receive in the mail upon successful completion of the ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification Examination.

5. When the payment is received, registered participants will receive a Welcome Letter which will contain the date, time and location of the class, as well as preparation instruction prior to class and on the day of the class.
6. The one-day class format does not allow me the time to teach all the subject material contained in the ServSafe® Fifth Edition Essentials textbook, so it is critical for participants to read each chapter of their textbook and practice what they have learned by completing all of the textbook exercises, before arriving to class. The textbook contains information that will help you prepare for the certification exam.
7. The course is conducted in one single 8-hour session, with the last 2 hours set aside for the exam. The course consists of lecture, Power Point® slides and a review of pages in the ServSafe® Essentials Fifth Edition textbook (please bring your copy of the textbook to class if you have a copy). Participants must present a photo ID with signature when arriving on the day of the training class. Please bring a few sharpened #2 lead pencils and notepaper. Participants must bring their ServSafe® Exam Answer Sheet to the class in order to take the examination. If you do not bring an answer sheet to class, you will not be able to take the exam. Please do not write on the answer sheet until instructed to do so during the class.
The Point Diner offers a delicious variety of breakfast and lunch specials. Arrive early before class if you desire and enjoy one of their delicious breakfast specials, at your expense. You are also encouraged to conveniently enjoy their lunch specials during the 30-minute lunch break, at your expense. Beverages and snacks are available for participants to purchase during the 10-minute breaks during the course. Please take care of your servers as the gratuity is not included in the prices.

FOR SALE: one USED ServSafe® Essentials Fifth Edition textbook - $35.00. This textbook does not contain an Exam Answer Sheet. This textbook was used once by one student. Some of the text inside of the book has been highlighted. The textbook exercises have the answers written on them (not sure if the written in answers are correct, so be careful). This book would be a great reference to keep on your shelf at your establishment, and could be used to study in advance before registering for a ServSafe® course and examination.

Check Policy: If your check is dishonored or returned for any reason, this merchant will electronically debit your account for the amount of the check plus a state (NJ) non-sufficient funds (NSF) fee of $30.00 (or legal limit) plus any applicable sales tax. The use of a check for payment is your acknowledgment of the NSF check policy.
Cancellation Policy: Classes canceled by paid participant(s) or by Michael Leichliter of ML Food Safety Consulting LLC will be handled as follows: All sales are final. The classes and any materials supplied by me are nonrefundable. Participants must contact me immediately if they will not be able to attend the class that they have paid for. Participants may elect to send another person to attend the class in their place if they desire. On the same note, I will immediately notify participant(s) in the event that I need to cancel a class. If any of the scenarios arise as described above, participants will be guaranteed a seat in my next class at no additional cost.

I am a Certified ServSafe® Instructor and Registered ServSafe® Examination Proctor. I offer an 8-hour accredited ServSafe® certifying program recognized by the New Jersey Department of Health and by the (CFP). I provide the ServSafe® training and ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification exam at the following locations:
- Public locations: these classes can be found advertised on my web site.
- Private locations: these classes are specifically requested by establishment management and are not open to public registration. The requester coordinates the suitable (quiet) training room where the training and examinations occur. There is a 4 student minimum. There is a 10 student minimum for locations over 40 miles from my location.
